Hi All

I have some footage shot on an Arri camera using the ProRes 4444 XQ codec. When trying to convert it in Episode Pro I get an error. My understanding is that Episode 7.1 does support this codec. Am I missing something? has anyone else had success in transcoding from this codec?

Episode Pro 7.1
Windows 7

Thanks in advance.

Please post the error message as that can indicate if it's a codec related issue.
ProRes 4444 XQ may not be supported yet. The Blackmagic Ursa and UrsaMini also use this codec.

Hi Craig

Thanks for the info. It is related to the FourCC code in the file. I changed the fourcc code in the file from ap4x to ap4h and the file transcoded successfully.

Regards

Please do fill out the form and report that. That's an issue we need to investigate.

https://davidtorcivia.com/decoding-proresxq-on-windows/

When apple introduced ProRes 4444 XQ, they changed the fourCC code from ap4h to ap4x even though the actual decoder did not change. This change means that decoders that work with ProRes will think they are incompatible with ProRes XQ even though they're very capable of playing it back if it was labeled with a ap4h fourCC. QuickTime on OSX (and the many NLE's and other pieces of software that depend on it) has had its fourCC decoder lists updated while PC QuickTime (and the many NLE's and other pieces of software that depend on it) have not.
