On a windows pc, xp pro, two processors...
starting with an uncompressed avi file going to mpeg4 (the only sound option looks like AAC (is that the problem?), i get a fantastic picture, but no audio at all.
When I start with my DV avi version, I get a lesser picture but I do get the sound.
I'm brand new to the program. I must be setting something wrong.
I tried converting to mpeg4 but still coming out as a avi, the file was too too small and the picture was horrible.
How do I set this right?
My goal is to get the best possible version up on UTUBE from the uncompresseed file.
(Then I would like settings for iPhone...)

What is the audio attached to the uncompressed AVI?
I want to make sure there's no audio codec compatibility issue.
If the MPEG 4 is H.264 then AAC is the norm.

BTW make sure you're using Episode 5.3

THANKS SO MUCH FOR GETTING BACK!!
Here are the file properties:

File Path: E:\RenderTo\RealEstate\Winterwood\WinterwoodFinal UC.avi
Type: AVI Movie
File Size: 6.1 GB
Image Size: 720 x 480
Pixel Depth: 720
Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Total Duration: 00;03;54;09
Average Data Rate: 26.6 MB / second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 0.9

Created with: Adobe Premiere Pro 3.0
Project: \\?\T:\AbobeProj\RealEstate\Ron\Winterwood\Winterwood.prproj

AVI File details:
Contains 1 video track(s) and 1 audio track(s).
Interleave: 1 : 292.63

Video track 1:
Size is 6.02G bytes (average frame = 906.25K bytes)
There are 7023 keyframes.
Frame rate is 29.97 fps
Frame size is 720 x 480
Video format is YUV 422 10-bit CCIR 601

Audio track 1:
Size is 42.90M bytes
Rate is 48000 samples/sec
Sample size is 16 bits

SO, IS THERE A SETTING IN EPISODE THAT WOULD HANDLE THE PICTURE PEFECTLY (what I've gotten from so many of the settings is excellent picture) AND then include the SOUND..

Do I need to re-render the project? I can do that. But I'd like to keep the uncompressed video - it seems to deliver the best final picture. Again, this will be uploaded to YouTube and I'd like them to not need to mess with it. I'll be doing at least one of these a week, so I'd like to nail down the procedure.

THANKS AGAIN, SO MUCH, FOR LOOKING AT THIS!!

Would you be willing to send me the source AVI file so I can test on my end?
I can get you FTP info if you'd like.

I can't verify the source audio because I can't seem to play the file on any of the players I have. VLC doesn't play it for example. How are you playing the file? This seems like it's in a proprietary codec installed with Premiere. Generally though give your above specs I would think the audio is PCM which Episode should handle, but doesn't seem to in this case.
