Hello,

I have Wirecast 4.0.1 installed on a Windows 7 computer which captures audio and video from our video conference equipment in one of our meeting rooms. We've been successful at getting it to record to disk and to broadcast locally. Now we would like to send the broacast to a Windows Media Services server so that we can have other people in our organization connect to the live stream on our more powerful hardware. However, I am not able to find the correct settings in getting this working as I keep getting the message that Windows Media Services does not allow MMS to be the source traffic on a new Publishing Point. I tried some of the other formats and settings but cant get it to work.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Can you please post exactly you have your Broadcast settings set in Destination box and everything below it?
How have you set your server?
Please post the exact error message you're getting.
Please save the server log to examine what it's generating when the communication fails.

You shouldn't have any problem using MMS to send to WMS. Many people are confused as to how MMS is used and what Microsoft means by it being legacy.
The documents below explain aspects of using MMS.

Thank you for the reploy Craig.

Encorder Preset: Multiple Bitrate - Windows Media 9

Destination: Network

Push to Server
Address: 10.0.33.130
Publish Point: Wirecast.asx

When I click Broadcast I get the follow error message:

The remote server is not compatible with Windows Media Push requests. Please make sure you are broadcasting to the correct server and try again. [-1205]

The error code for this failure is -1205

I've tried various items on the server and that may be my problem. I've been creating new publishing points named Wirecast without luck. Could you tell me what I need to do on the server end? I just want to take the stream from Wirecast and push it to the server where end users can watch it.

See User Guide page 42,43 (PDF 46,47).
You seem to be everything correctly. It seems to be a server issue unfortunately I can't tell what.
Since Push To Server is standard, that you get a compatibility error message means something about the server isn't configured correctly. But what needs to be changed I can't tell.

Thank you Craig. I have read the guide and it does appear that I have the Wirecast settings set up correctly. Is there any documentation on how to set up Windows Media Services for rebroadcasting?

Microsoft. Not great documentation IMHO but here it is. I've looked through what I though were the relevant sections and I found the details vague.

I did see these earlier. They are vague indeed.

I guess my real problem is in Windows Media Services when I am creating a new Publishing Point it asks for the Content Source and I cannot figure out what to put in for the location. Do you happen to know what that would be?

The example shows http://encorder and I've try http://PCNAME but it does not work.

One of our engineers may have set one up for testing internally. If you fill out the form and include a link to this forum thread perhaps they'll get back to with what they did during their tests.

Craig,

I'm continuing to play around with this and found a Push source setting in Windows Media Services where I enter Push:10.0.37.144 as the source and it allows me to create the publishing point. It then says that the publishing point cannot be started manually but will start when the encoder starts pushing the stream. However, when I turn on Wirecast broadcasting it is not engaging or starting this publishing point.

UPDATE

I am back to getting the -1205 Error.

Dear Brett,

Unfortunately we are unable to provide configuration instructions for Windows Media Server. In this instance it's going to be best to contact Microsoft for assistance in setting up the server.

I guess you'll have to check with Microsoft. It does sound like you're getting closer though.

I was finally able to get this to work. The issue was that I have Sharepoint on the same server and it was using port 80 which disabled the WMS HTTP Server Control Protocol. Once I shutdown SharePoint and started the protocol, I was able to receive a pushed broadcast.
