I've a problem. In the main window I have two shots: a webcam and a video .mov. If I select the webcam I hear the micro built in and when I select the .mov I hear the audio of the video. I'd like to use an external mixer to manage the audio: how can I configure the audio in wirecast? When I select the video I'd like to have the audio coming from the mixer (connected to PC audio card) and not that one assigned at the video in the program.

OK, solved. I'm sorry.

Actually I focus the problem. What I want is to keep the audio of the video when I select another shot. For example I start the show with the video .mov with its audio, I switch on the camera with the audio coming from a microphone (keeping the audio of the video in background) and come back to the video to full screen and full audio. How can I do that?

Audio can be accessed in the shot editor as well as the main layer. You can also mute the audio using the shot editor as well. In addition you can use other layers for audio even if they aren't labeled audio layers. Once you understand that you can set up all sorts of combinations.

Sorry Craig, I made many test but there is something I don't understand: I try to explain with my bad English. In my configuration for streaming to Ustream there is an external mixer and I need to take the sound of a videoclip in wirecast through the line output of my PC, send it to the external mixer and the output of the mixer connected to wirecast through the line in of the PC to send it to the streaming. If I mute the audio of the videoclip in wirecast I haven't any sound on the output and, on other hand, if I switch on the audio of the videoclip I have it both on the output of the PC (and to the external mixer of course) and directly to the streaming.
I think that probably it's needed the feature to select the PC audio line input in the settings of broadcast window. What do you think about? Edited: 11/9/2009 at 3:46 AM by spino |

I can think of workarounds but they're complex. One might be playing the clip on another computer and using Desktop Presenter to send video and feed the audio out of that computer into the mixer.
On the Mac there's a free utility called SoundFlower which allows Wirecast to see the equivalent of PC line input. I think Virtual Audio Cable does something similar on Windows although I haven't tested. We are certainly looking at providing a more user friendly audio interface. Perhaps if you could do a screencast showing what you're running into and how you might like to control things that can help the coders look at how to implement this. ------------------------- CraigS Telestream Desktop Forum Moderator |

Ok Craig, I'll try to do a sreencast and I don't know if this could help you but I think that the most simple way to obtain a good solution to this problem is to add the choice of "audio in device" in the broadcast window in the encoding section, it coul be "line in", "micro in", "webcam micro", "soundcard", etc... In this way anyone can broadcast the audio he wants. Edited: 11/10/2009 at 6:14 AM by spino |

Confused. Why would this be in the "encoding section?" Wouldn't it be in the Audio Layer of the main window . . . and isn't it there already? All you need to do is select your audio device in there and shut off the audio in the edit shot audio layer.

Main menu: broadcast-broadcast settings-select flash high bandwith (in my case)-modify
Here, in the audio encoding section, I think it's the natural location to put the selection of "audio in" to send to the broadcast service (ustream, justin, ecc...). |

I think selecting the audio in the audio layers is more consistent with the design. Broadcast is just the encoder. Configuring inputs is through Wirecast main and shot Windows and Devices through Device Manager and Configure Devices if such is needed for the specific device.

Ok and following your thought I think, if it's possible, that a good idea is to have the opportunity to select the output audio in the shot editor and the audio in (to send to broadcast or to record) in the audio layer. Anyway Wirecast isn't a my project so I accept your decision. |

Output of shot editor can be sent to Broadcaster. In that shot editor any number of things can be selected as the input. Other audio layers can be off so they don't interfere as well. We are looking at how we can make this easier though. It's not intuitive for many people. We may come up with something even easier than your thinking of. That's what we aim for.
