iMac: Intel Core Duo 3.06
MAc OS X 10.5.8 Version of software: 2.0 (12153) ------------------- When I add or modify a video, audio, or screen record action's field - for example, when I manually change the video action's Scale field from 100% to 150% - the scale field is still selected after I entered the change. Now, when I want to continue playing from the timeline, and I hit the space bar to start playback, the scale field gets the space value, instead of the desired resumption of playback. This means I must always use the mouse to select the playhead, before the spacebar will work to start playback. I would suggest the following solution to this problem: When the user is done changing a field, they could hit the enter key, to lock-in the last field entry and remove focus from that field. That way the space bar would work again the way one would expect - to resume playback. No wasted mouse moves - very easy. |

The coders say this is how the OS itself behaves but we are looking this as a feature request.

On this page you'll see that I had the same request. And I noticed something different about 1.5.4 and 2.0 that makes my workaround for this now moot...
My workaround in 1.5.4 was to hit TAB repeatedly until the numerical entry fields no longer had focus. Then I could hit play (spacebar) and not worry about altering the data in a field. For example, the Screen Recording Properties section has two fields: TAB 1st time = pointer zoom focus TAB 2nd time = opacity focus TAB 3rd & 4th times = don't know where the focus goes, but I'm able to hit the space bar after Tabbing the 3rd time to play back the video But in v2.0, hitting TAB repeatedly cycles between pointer zoom to opacity. Hence, my workaround is no longer valid. It's a change that I find highly annoying (sorry, but it's true). Thanks for reading/listening. ------------------------- PPC G5 Quad, OSX 10.5.7, Screenflow 1.5.4 |

Sometimes when "standard" behavior isn't quite what people want it's worth looking at the alternative. I can't make promises but I'm making sure the voices are heard.

Thank you SO much CraigS.
I know you "get it", and not to put too fine-a-point on it, maybe this would be helpful to explain to the coders... When learning SF for the first time, you're going to be moving slowly, getting used to the environment, etc. At first you discover that setting a numeric value and then hitting play results in an error message. You say to yourself, "Oh, OK, I'll have to watch for that". Still in this slow-moving, just-learning frame of mind, you find ways to remove focus from the numerical field so you can hit play. But once you start to get up to speed, you find that having to remove focus from the numerical field constantly becomes a workflow killer. Perhaps code could be written so that only numerals, zero, and decimal point can be entered into numeric fields? In other words, a filter on the input to the numerical field, so that only 0 - 9 and "." will make it there. All other keystrokes (like spacebar) would affect their respective functions. I dunno, just musing here... Thanks again. Your efforts are really appreciated! ------------------------- PPC G5 Quad, OSX 10.5.7, Screenflow 1.5.4 |

We are looking at this and how and whether to handle this. Sometimes an app calls for a specific solution even if it's not standard in other apps.
