I sent this in as a bug in the 2.0 Betas that I test, sadly in the Final I still have the exact same problem.

When I try to save a Projectfile to my external Firewire Drives I get a message saying that Screenflow could not save the file.

If I then save it to my desktop it works, after that (2nd save so to speak) I can save it to my external drive without problems.

Anyone else having this problem with the 2.0 Final ?

System used:
Screenflow 2.0 Final
iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.1
Western Digital MyBook Studio II FW800 Drive

So obviously there is something wrong. Good to know it's not just my system though.

PCG include details. Firewire or USB drives, OS?

BTW is there anything in the naming convention in the path such as spaces or non alphanumeric characters in the path to the drive or any subfolders?

SierraX does the drive name have a space in it?
rosenkrieger, given the drive name, I'm wondering if the space in any name or any non alphanumeric character might be something ScreenFlow is having an issues with.

I only use alphanumeric characters and nothing weird. So the only culprit could be the space

Not a name spacing issue nor is it limited to external drives.
Tested on second internal drive on MacPro named "VideoA" and got the message that it couldn't be saved.

Two FireWire drives... both via FW400. Named WD1TB and WD500GB. The first is used by Time Machine, the second is not. Using OS X 10.6.1.

I think this issue may impact anything other than the boot drive since I couldn't save to my second internal Sata drive.

Hi. Same problem here on a MBP 10.6.1.

Alert msg: The document "Untitled" could not be saved as "Untitled.screenflow". Seems to occur only when saving to ext drive only -- saves OK to other volumes/partitions on internal boot drive. Problem occurs on standard HFS+ formatted (GUID part) volume on a 3.5" USB ext drive. Same error also occurs on a FAT16 formatted flash drive. No whitespace in either volume names. Noticed this: if you save a new file to an internal volume first (or load an existing file from another location), then a subsequent 'save as...' to the external volume *will* succeed.

Hope this helps. Otherwise, a very nice upgrade.

Hi,

I can't save on an internal drive, far less an external one - MacPro 10.6.2.

From the Console:
27/10/2009 13:59:46 ScreenFlow[6293] File Operation Failed! Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-47 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -47.)" (File is busy (delete))

Thanks,

Karen

victory issue is noted and we're working on a fix.
Curlypaws. As I noted above, it won't work on internal drive either except the boot drive.

WORKAROUND.
First Save to Boot Drive.
Then Save As to the drive you want to save to.
We will work on a fix but the above should get you going.

Hi Craig,

An update - if I change the scratch drive to be my startup drive then I can save to the boot OK. If I assign the scratch drive to another internal drive then I can't save anything at all. So the fix needs you to also ensure that Preferences/Advanced, "Capture Scratch Disk" is set to "Startup Volume".

Hi Karen,
I'm testing a fix for this that seems to be working. We should have the fixed release out shortly.

Guys, you CAN save to drives other than the boot drive if you save something other than the boot drive as your scratch disk in preferences. Whatever drive you set as the scratch disk, you'll be able to save to.

Apparently Karen's not experiencing that. In any case we should have this issue fixed shortly (a few days at most).

Craig, I'm experiencing the same problem. I can't save anywhere at all... Is there anything I can do BEFORE an update? I've been working on this video for like 2 hours and I obviously need to save something SOMEWHERE. Screenflow has crashed on me like 4 times in those 2 hours whenever I try to detach audio (another 2.0 problem, fyi) and whenever I open it again my work was restored. Where are the temporary files stored?

Please read READ BEFORE POSTING I need complete details. Please check to make sure both scartchdisk and location you're attempting to save to are on boot drive for the time being.
The .scc file is store at the root of your boot drive (or the drive you've designated for scratch disk).

Another data point: Saving to a Filevault-enabled account, even if on the boot volume (and the scratch file), also does not work. Saving elsewhere on the same volume does, however, work.

Hi Craig

I also tried saving to an external drive. The save seemed to work but I can't access the scc file. The recording went for over an hour, I can see an scc file that is over 4GB, but it doesn't register as media in my document. How do I link/import the scc file?

I've seen the other discussions on trouble with the scc file but hopefully there is an easy solution for my problem. Fingers crossed!

Regards
Myles

You can try drag and drop from the hard drive into the project media bin.
