I've searched around and I can't find an answer to this. Will Flip4Mac allow After Effects to RENDER (not export) a wmv? If so which version would I have to buy? I need to render a queue of movies to WMVs ("make movie" in after effects), and by using "File>Export" I would have to export one by one, so that's not an option.

Player Pro should allow most Quicktime based apps to use WMV. Sometimes it helps a bit more if the WMV is saved in a Quicktime wrapper so the file appears to be an MOV but still has WMV inside.
You can test this with the free Flip4Mac player although you'll get a watermark. You mention render, not export, but you then mention exporting to WMV so that's a bit confusing. You must have Flip4Mac Studio series to export to WMV. Player Pro to use WMV as source Studio series adds export to WMV. Studio series includes Player Pro features as well. ------------------------- CraigS Telestream Desktop Forum Moderator |

It's confusing because After Effects can "export" (File>Export>wmv) but nobody ever uses that to export their files from After Effects. You're supposed use "Make movie" (Composition>make movie>wmv) But wmv is not an option here (it is on a pc). I was hoping it would be available if I bought one of the Flip4Mac Pro options. I don't think containing the wmv file in a mov will work since this is for a very specific video player. And I need to make a queue with the "Make movie" option because if I use the archaic ""File>export" I have to do a hundred of these one at a time for days.

If you need to use batch conversion you should be using either Telestream Episode or you could use Flip4Mac in Compressor. Fundementally, After Effects is not a compression tool. While it can do exports it's limited in features compared to a dedicated export tool Episode and Compressor with Flip4Mac can do batch encoding. Episode would likely be faster.
BTW it still sounds like you're confusing import with export. WMV wrapped in MOV is for Editing, not distribution. It will work with most any Quicktime capable app and allows you to handle WMV as source without re-encoding first. ------------------------- CraigS Telestream Desktop Forum Moderator |
